Various Tasks of Geophysicists at Oil and Gas Fields

The oil and natural gas projects demand exploration / production geophysicists who work in collaboration with geologists in the oil projects. The main task of a geophysicist is to identify areas containing oil. It helps to determine the position of the tanks, to measure their depth, quantify their volume.

A geophysicist studies the structure and composition of the soil and subsoil of the Earth, and also evaluates them. There is a lot for a geophysicist to build up oil careers. It’s the geophysicist’s task to make use of methods from physical science and mathematics, such as analysis of the wave propagation (seismology), the magnetic field (geomagnetism), the gravity field (gravity), etc.

The geophysicists are mainly involved in the exploration of an area and they probe the ground based gravity surveys (gravity field) and magnetic surveys (magnetic field). The most used method is the seismic reflection, pneumatic vibrators for generating weak shocks in the basement, and sensors for recording data.

A geophysicist works with geologist’s interpretation, and evaluates the data, the nature of risks and uncertainties. Another job of a geophysicist is to process the retrieved data from the seismic reflection technique. On land or sea, the data is processed directly at the point of acquisition.

The reservoir geophysicist is responsible for determining the size and shape of the hydrocarbon reservoir (delineation), whose role is in limelight after the discovery is made. A reservoir geophysicist optimizes the knowledge of the field and proposes the drilling of more wells to improve performance.

The research and development geophysicist creates new techniques for exploration and oil production to improve methods and tools, and can also propose the use of new software for data interpretation, new methods of modeling and imaging etc. The above discussed works are certain tasks of a geophysicist to build up  careers in oil

There are numerous companies in the petroleum industry that offer oil and gas jobs at all levels, be it technical or non-technical. The most required positions demand candidates who have a clear understanding of remote sensing and the requirements for databases. The candidates are required to coordinate with reliable earthquake wells and map their needs.

The non-technical oil and gas jobs mostly involve working with reliable geospatial data, oil and gas exploration managers, geologists, geophysicists, geotechnical engineers, project managers and field staff, and also deliver critical projects in a timely manner.
The candidates working for core technical profile in Gulf have to have an access to databases of reliable coordinates and several sets of geospatial data support images. The oil and natural gas companies expect from their staff that they:

Prospects of Middle East jobs

In the Middle East countries, the coming decade will be addressing challenges such as unemployment and aging population. An obsolete production model is required to solve such problems. The technology will enable setup of the global teams, in which professional freelancing and international mobility policies will gain limelight.

In the next ten years, the market is expected to face significant labor market changes, which may or may not improve the working conditions. It is expected that about 300,000
Middle East jobs will be recreated per year that will lead to business flexibility and will adapt the needs of a globalized and competitive economy.

Higher value-added businesses are required to evoke the labor market. A Middle East development model based on industries that require labor-intensive and traditional sectors such as construction, real estate and petroleum is in big demand for extensive  jobs in Middle East.

Big guns of the job industry also believe that over the next ten years the labor market will undergo a major transformation. They also believe that integration of skilled foreign professionals in organizations will be absolutely and certainly will become indispensable and highly valued resources in a short term.  In this context, experts argue that immigrant labor will receive a new prominence. They say that, without foreign workers, it will be impossible for the Middle East countries to maintain their average level of GDP.

The industry experts believe that the international mobility will be key in the coming years, and emphasize on the globalization of the companies, supported by geographically dispersed teamwork.
Another group that will strengthen its role in the next decade is women. The presence of women must be made prominent in the Middle East jobs. The male model of management based on control, independence, and competition will not work anymore. The new social changes demand flexibility, balance and give more importance to the emotions.

However, these changes will not happen overnight and there is need to put a lot of effort to see Dubai Shining!
